ABOUT Me
Hola!
My name is Karla Gabriela, I’m a mommy of five girls whom I’ve worn since they were each newborn and well into toddlerhood, they are 12, 10, 8 and 3 years old and our newest little one born in December 2023. I'm married to my highschool sweetheart and we are currently living on the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, also known as Vancouver, Canada. My family and I are so grateful to live, play, learn and grow here.
I have been an active member of our local babywearing community for several years now and I currently serve as a group Admin and Lending Library Leader. I love sharing my passion for babywearing with others and helping them see what an amazingly practical tool it is for parents and caregivers.
When I had my first daughter, in 2011, I knew I wanted to carry her close. Like many first-time parents, I got myself a stretchy wrap. It was AMAZING to be able to carry my daughter close, around the house and while out-and-about. It was such a confidence booster as a first-time parent to be able to respond to her needs quickly, to be able to comfort her easily and have her rest on me wherever we were.
No one around me wore their baby in a carrier so it was a bit of a novelty to my family and friends but I soon found support and grew in knowledge and confidence through the online babywearing community. I used the same stretchy for about 18 months with my first daughter and again used that wrap when my second daughter was born. I wore her even more often than my first since I had a toddler to care for! That stretchy wrap lasted us into early toddlerhood! As I met other parents who shared this passion for babywearing, I attended meetups run by the local babywearing support group and joined a local walking group where everyone wore their baby. Babywearing helped me connect with other like-minded parents and build friendships with some wonderful people.
While expecting my third I was introduced to so many other types of carriers, woven wraps, Asian inspired carriers, ring slings, and soft structured carriers. It’s amazing the selection that is now available! There is something for everyone!
I had the privilege of taking the Babywearing Educator course through Center for Babywearing Studies and am now a Trained CBWS Babywearing Educator. Earlier this year I also took the Slingababy Consultancy Course and am working towards completing that training also. It is such a blessing to be able to have this kind of training so I now have the tools that I need to help parents and caregivers discover how simple and pleasant babywearing can be.
It has been a wonderful adventure of learning, growing and sharing so far and I am excited to see where this journey leads us.
Please contact me if you would like me to support you in your own parenting journey.
Happy Wearing!
